Homeowner Says Neighbor’s Sprinklers Soak His Car Every Morning and Refuses to Adjust Them, Then Called the Police When He Tried to Fix the Spray Himself

Most people expect the occasional disagreement with neighbors. But one homeowner says a simple sprinkler adjustment has turned into an ongoing feud that now leaves his car drenched every single morning.

And when he tried to fix the problem himself, the situation escalated even further.

The 6:30 A.M. Soaking

The homeowner says his neighbor, a man in his late 50s named Richard, has an automatic sprinkler system that runs every morning at 6:30.

One of the sprinkler heads is pointed directly toward the homeowner’s driveway.

The result? His parked car gets completely soaked every single day.

According to him, it’s not just a light mist either. The spray drenches the hood, windshield, and windows, leaving water pooling on the car.

Over time, that constant exposure has caused mineral deposits and water spots to build up on the paint.

Repeated Requests Ignored

The homeowner says he asked Richard five separate times to adjust the sprinkler head slightly so it wouldn’t spray the driveway.

Each time, Richard refused.

According to the homeowner, Richard insisted the system was “professionally installed and calibrated perfectly” and didn’t need to be changed.

When shown how much water was actually hitting the car, Richard reportedly brushed it off.

“A little water never hurt anyone,” he said, joking that he was essentially giving the car a free wash.

A $200 Detailing Bill

Eventually, the water spots became bad enough that the homeowner paid $200 for a professional detailing service to remove the mineral deposits.

He showed Richard the bill and asked if he would reimburse the cost.

Instead, Richard laughed and told him the damage was his own fault for “parking in the spray zone.”

Trying to Work Around the Problem

Frustrated, the homeowner started parking on the street instead.

But that solution came with its own issues.

Street parking requires a five-minute walk back to the house, and available spots are limited. In his view, it makes no sense that he can’t use his own driveway because of a neighbor’s sprinkler.

So one morning he decided to adjust the sprinkler head himself.

That decision quickly backfired.

Police Get Involved

Richard called the police and accused him of tampering with his property.

When officers arrived, they reportedly told the homeowner that he couldn’t adjust the sprinkler system, even if the spray was reaching his property.

After the incident, the situation got worse.

According to the homeowner, Richard turned the sprinkler head even further toward the driveway, making the problem more extreme than before.

Now he believes the neighbor may be doing it intentionally.

Why the Story Took Off

The post sparked a lot of debate online because it touches on a common neighborhood conflict: when someone’s property setup starts affecting someone else’s.

Many readers felt the homeowner had already made multiple reasonable attempts to resolve the issue peacefully.

Commenters Suggested Legal Options

Some users said documenting the damage and taking the issue to court could force a solution.

User thisisyourmoment wrote:

“Record the damage, send a certified letter, then file a small claims suit for the paint repair.”

Others suggested that local regulations might apply, especially regarding water waste.

User Aspen9999 recommended:

“Call the city water department. Many places have regulations about sprinkler runoff.”

Some commenters even suggested building a barrier in the driveway to block the spray entirely.

When a Small Fix Turns Into a Big Feud

At its core, the conflict seems to revolve around something simple: adjusting one sprinkler head by a few inches.

But after multiple refusals—and a police call—the issue has grown far beyond lawn watering.

Now the homeowner says he’s left dealing with a soaked car, a frustrated walk from street parking, and a neighbor who appears determined not to change anything.
