Woman Says She Planned a Proper Date With Someone She Met Online, Then Realized She’d Been Brought to Hang Out With the Woman’s Friends Instead and Was Called “Insane” When She Walked Out

Dating is supposed to be about connection. But for one woman, what she thought would be a meaningful one-on-one date quickly turned into something completely different.

And instead of getting to know each other, she found herself sitting alone in a crowded bar, wondering how things went so wrong.

It Started With Different Expectations

The 21-year-old says she met a 40-year-old woman online who claimed she wanted something serious.

Their first meeting didn’t exactly follow that plan. They met at a bar where the woman DJs, she was already drunk, and the night ended with them going home together.

Afterward, the younger woman made her intentions clear.

She didn’t want a repeat of that. She wanted an actual date. Time to talk, connect, and build something real.

The older woman agreed.

The “Date” That Wasn’t a Date

But when the next meetup came around, things felt familiar.

She was asked to meet at the same bar again, supposedly just to quickly say hi to a friend.

Except it didn’t stay quick.

They moved to another bar where a group of the older woman’s friends were already hanging out.

Instead of a date, it became a group hangout.

Feeling Invisible in a Crowd

The problem wasn’t just the setting.

It was how she was treated.

She didn’t know anyone. No one really spoke to her. And as someone who already struggles with anxiety in loud, crowded spaces, the situation quickly became overwhelming.

At one point, she was just sitting on her phone while the group socialized around her.

The person who invited her didn’t check in or notice how uncomfortable she was.

The Breaking Point

Eventually, she stepped away.

When the older woman still didn’t come after her, she reached a breaking point.

She confronted her, upset and overwhelmed, saying she expected an actual date, not to be left alone in a group of strangers.

That’s when things escalated.

Instead of understanding, she was called “insane” and “childish” for crying. One of the friends even laughed, making the moment more humiliating.

How the Night Ended

In the end, it wasn’t even her date who made sure she got home safely.

One of the woman’s friends did.

And during that ride, he told her something that stuck. According to him, the woman wasn’t serious and had a reputation for being “scummy.”

The next day, the older woman apologized.

But by then, the damage was already done.

Why This Situation Blew Up

This story resonated because it highlights a mismatch in expectations.

One person showed up for a date. The other treated it like a casual night out.

On top of that, there were clear issues with communication, respect, and emotional awareness.

Being ignored in a social setting is uncomfortable enough. Being dismissed and insulted for expressing that discomfort takes it to another level.

The Internet Didn’t Hold Back

Most commenters felt she wasn’t overreacting at all.

User Mysterious_Waltz_266 pointed out that the behavior didn’t match someone looking for something serious.

Others focused on the environment itself.

User ChilboChaggins listed multiple red flags, including the disregard for her boundaries and the way she was treated by both the woman and her friends.

Some also highlighted the age gap.

User LadyCass79 warned that relationships with such a large age difference, especially at a young age, can come with imbalances in expectations and power.

The Bigger Picture

At its core, this wasn’t just a bad date.

It was a situation where someone clearly communicated what they needed and was ignored.

Walking away wasn’t an overreaction. It was a response to feeling dismissed, uncomfortable, and disrespected.

And sometimes, that’s all you really need to know.
