That’s exactly what happened in a viral Reddit post where a woman says a single Facebook message to a stranger eventually triggered a legal battle—and led to her father cutting her out of his life.

A Complicated Family Dynamic
According to the woman’s post, her father—who is in his 80s—is married to a woman named “Cathy” in her 50s. The two have had a strained relationship for years.
She says Cathy openly dislikes her and her children, and she also believes Cathy has struggled with alcohol problems that have caused family tension.
While living in southern Florida, the couple became close with an elderly neighbor named “Martha.”
As far as the daughter knew, Martha didn’t have immediate family nearby, though she had two nieces who lived in another state.
