Worker Says His Truck Burned After a DeWalt Battery Was Left Inside Unplugged, and 200 Days Later He’s Still Getting Delays, Demands, and Zero Compensation

In a troubling saga that has captivated many online, a worker has revealed the ongoing fallout from a fire that engulfed his work truck due to a DeWalt lithium-ion battery left inside the vehicle. Now, over 200 days later, he finds himself still battling for compensation amidst constant delays and demands for additional documentation.

The incident took place on **July 14, 2025**, when the worker’s truck caught fire while parked. At the time, a DeWalt 20V battery was onboard, disconnected from any tools or chargers. This alarming situation spurred an investigation by representatives from **Stanley Black & Decker**, the parent company of DeWalt, and the saga has since unfolded with a series of frustrating developments.

What Has Happened Since

After his initial post on Reddit garnered significant attention, the worker reported that a fire investigator was dispatched to look into the incident. The battery was collected for further evaluation, including a CT scan to presumably understand the fire’s cause. Though he later received the battery back, the subsequent findings of the investigation have not been shared with him, a development that added to his frustration.

The worker has been in continuous communication with Ross Taylor, **Manager of Litigation at Stanley Black & Decker**, who has acted as his sole point of contact throughout this ordeal. The worker expected a resolution within about 30 days, but that timeframe quickly elapsed without any answers. He was later informed that the case had been handed over to a third-party adjuster, with no clear timeline for when a resolution might be reached.

Latest Updates

Recently, the worker received a disheartening update from the litigation representative. The third-party adjuster expressed that there was “insufficient information” available to evaluate the damages claimed. Consequently, they demanded additional documentation, including detailed insurance payout breakdowns, project-level documentation for lost work, a comprehensive inventory of tools and equipment, and even multiple years of tax returns to support any claims for business interruption.

This was especially frustrating for the worker, who noted that he had already submitted extensive documentation during the investigation. Even so, the demands for further information continue to bog down the process.

Current Status

As it stands today, the worker has not received any form of compensation or reimbursement, nor has there been any interim assistance offered during these lengthy proceedings. His situation raises questions about corporate accountability and the efficiency of product liability claims, especially when safety concerns related to lithium-ion batteries are becoming more prevalent.

Why He’s Sharing This

Looking Ahead

Despite the drawn-out process, the worker remains in contact with Stanley Black & Decker in hopes of reaching a resolution directly. However, given the extensive timeline and the current position regarding demands for documentation, he felt it was crucial to provide an update. He is also interested in hearing from others who may have encountered similar incidents involving lithium-ion batteries or product-related fires.

As technology continues to advance, the safety of everyday tools and equipment remains paramount. This case serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by consumers when navigating product-related safety issues and corporate responses.
