New Neighbor Dug Trenches On Their Property, Threw Yard Waste Over, Called His Wife An “Asshole,” Then Claimed No One Had Ever Called Police On Her

Moving into a new home can be both an exciting and daunting experience. For one couple in Massachusetts, their initial joy was quickly overshadowed by the antics of a neighboring woman whose behavior straddled the line between bizarre and aggressive. Their story, which has since stirred up a frenzy online, exemplifies the challenges of dealing with a difficult neighbor.

Upon moving in, they attempted to build rapport with their new neighbor by greeting her with friendly waves and kind words. However, their efforts were met with cold indifference as she walked away without so much as a glance. What started as a neighborly ignorance soon escalated into a glaring conflict when the couple noticed the neighbor digging trenches on their property without permission.

The neighbor claimed that the water pooling from their garage was due to improper drainage work done by the previous owner. In an unexpected twist, she insisted that digging on their land would help alleviate her water issues. When confronted, the neighbor continued her digging, unperturbed by the couple’s request to cease and desist.

Matters worsened when the neighbor began to dispose of her yard waste by tossing it over onto their property. Things took an even more hostile turn when she verbally assaulted the wife, calling her an “asshole” for simply cleaning her outdoor furniture. Frustrated yet hopeful to avoid confrontation, the couple warned her that her actions could lead them to involve the police.

In a moment of defiance, the neighbor responded with a dismissive challenge, claiming that no one had ever called the police on her in the decades she had lived there. This assertion, as it turns out, was misleading. As the couple delved deeper, they discovered that they were her third set of neighbors to file a restraining order against her, a revelation that left them both shocked and wary.

After calling the police and filing a report to document her behavior, the couple sought a temporary harassment order, which was granted for two weeks. However, renewal requests were subsequently denied, as the judge determined that the neighbor’s actions did not meet the legal threshold for harassment. Despite this setback, the couple remained undeterred, recognizing that they needed to take further steps to establish boundaries.

Investing in a privacy fence became a priority, as they aimed to protect their property and peace of mind. To properly delineate their land, the couple also planned to hire a surveyor. The challenge of erecting a substantial 400-foot fence loomed large, especially considering the financial burden it would entail.

Complicating the situation further was the neighbor’s continued obsession with documenting their activities. On one occasion, while the couple was working to repair the trench with rubber lining and river rock, the neighbor emerged and began photographing their efforts. Feeling violated and anxious about her intentions, the couple felt compelled to call the police once more. Unfortunately, their concerns fell on deaf ears as the officers deemed the situation a non-issue.

Now, they find themselves grappling with the bizarre reality of living adjacent to a woman whose behavior raises questions about her mental well-being. With a history that includes shoplifting arrests and past assaults, the couple is left pondering the motives behind the neighbor’s incessant photo-taking and increasingly erratic behavior. It has become a source of stress and frustration, especially as renovations and improvements to their home have taken a backseat to this ongoing saga.

In their predicament, the couple is seeking guidance and support from the online community, eager to learn how others have navigated similar encounters with challenging neighbors. Their situation underscores a common theme for many homeowners: the unexpected challenges that can accompany the dream of owning a home. With investments made and no immediate plans to move, they are left to figure out how to coexist with their unpredictable neighbor and reclaim their sense of peace in their new abode.
