Roommate Moves In As A Favor, Lets Her Boyfriend Threaten Violence, Neglects Her Dog, Takes Over The Apartment, Then Sticks Him With The Bills

After a favor spiraled into chaos, one tenant found himself in a living nightmare when he allowed his roommate to move in during her parents’ divorce. What began as a supportive gesture quickly devolved into a six-month ordeal filled with control issues, neglect of shared responsibilities, and even threats of violence, culminating in a bitter financial dispute that left him reeling.

The tenant, who was just 19 years old and had been living independently for almost a year before his roommate Kayla, 20, joined him, opened the doors of his apartment out of compassion. Initially, they shared a friendly rapport, but things took a turn when Kayla started frequently inviting over her boyfriend, Jake. Seeking some peace of mind, the tenant asked to meet Jake, sparking an explosive confrontation that marked the beginning of a tumultuous relationship.

“He can come over whenever he wants,” Kayla insisted, refusing to allow the tenant to express his concerns. Despite his calm demeanor, frustration built within him until he snapped, leading to a confrontation that cemented Kayla’s refusal to accommodate any of his requests.

As the months went on, the tenant described his living conditions as increasingly unbearable. Kayla neglected both her own dog and his, often leaving them confined and unattended for too long. One alarming incident occurred when he asked Kayla to walk his dog while he was at work, only for her to flatly refuse. The tenant returned home to find his dog had an accident in his room, while Kayla’s dog was similarly neglected, left in a crate for over 24 hours at times.

Yet it was Kayla’s escalating behavior towards his possessions that truly rattled the tenant. He frequently returned home to find his personal items tampered with, including his toothbrush flipped over, and his laundry mishandled as she prioritized her own. In a particularly unsettling twist, one day Kayla pulled his wet clothes from the washing machine to use it herself, leaving them for him to find on his bed.

Amidst all this, a sense of insecurity crept in when Jake began threatening the tenant over trivial interactions. A simple greeting turned into an alarming incident after Kayla informed him that Jake was furious he had spoken to him at all. The tenant had been cordial, yet he now felt threatened in his own home over his roommate’s boyfriend.

As frustrations mounted, Kayla’s controlling behavior extended to the tenant’s friends and family as well. She exploded at his guests for minor inconveniences and seemed to relish belittling him in front of Jake. The tenant noted that Kayla would often make disparaging remarks, referring to him as a “fatass” and lazy, further straining their already fragile dynamic.

Financial tensions also brewed. Kayla’s contribution towards rent was significantly less than her share based on her usage of utilities and the number of guests she entertained. The tenant realized he was quietly covering more than half of their living expenses, which he found unacceptable. When he sought to split costs more equitably, Kayla refused, insisting he was stuck with the original agreement, even if it no longer made sense.

When the tenant decided to leave the apartment, it was a relief, albeit one laden with unresolved issues. He chose to forfeit his $500 deposit instead of returning to repaint or repair the apartment, believing it was better to avoid further conflict. Yet even in this decision, Kayla attempted to wrestle the deposit for herself, leading to a harsh reality: despite his attempts to be considerate, he ended up fulfilling her demands while taking the blame for damages.

The final blow came when a utility bill for nearly $670 arrived after the tenant had moved out. This bill reflected only Kayla’s usage, with the tenant arguing that she had left appliances running and maintained poor habits in his absence, yet she refused to accept responsibility. Blocking him on all platforms, she claimed her previous payments covered the bill, which he knew was untrue.

As the tenant settled into his new place—an hour away from the chaos—he reflected on the year filled with stress and conflict. No more hour-long showers, no more neglecting pets, and finally, peace. Free from Kayla’s grasp, he found solace, but the unresolved financial disputes lingered as an unsettling reminder of what was supposed to be a simple act of kindness gone wrong.
