12 Things in Your Closet You Should Throw Away This Week

Ah, the closet. That magical place where dreams of stylish outfits come to life—but also where old regrets and questionable fashion choices go to die. If you’re anything like me, your closet might be a bit of a Bermuda Triangle. Things go in, but they never seem to come out! This week, let’s tackle that clutter and make some room for new possibilities (or at least the realization that you actually have clothes that fit). Here are 12 things you should consider tossing out.

1. That Dress You’ll “Totally” Fit Into Again

We’ve all got that one dress (or two… or three) hanging in the back, whispering sweet nothings about “the good old days.” But if it’s been more than a year since you wore it, it’s time to say goodbye. Trust me, the emotional weight of that dress isn’t worth the space it’s taking up. Plus, who needs that kind of negativity in their life?

2. Worn-Out Shoes

We love our shoes—some might even call us shoe hoarders—but those scuffed-up, broken heels aren’t doing anyone any favors. If your favorite pair looks like they’ve survived a war, it might be time to let them go. Think of it this way: new shoes could lead to new adventures! Who knows, the perfect pair might just be waiting for you.

3. Clothes with Tags Still On

Let’s face it, we’ve all been there. You bought something on a whim, thinking it would change your life, but it’s just been sitting there, untouched. If it’s been more than six months and you haven’t worn it, it’s time to let it go. You could donate it to someone who might actually put it to good use—and it’ll feel like a little blessing you’re passing on!

4. Anything That Doesn’t Fit

It’s a tough pill to swallow, but if you’re struggling to zip it up or it’s so baggy you could host a garden party in it, it’s time to say goodbye. Holding onto clothes that don’t fit is just a constant reminder of what doesn’t work. Instead, make room for pieces that celebrate your current self. You deserve that!

5. Old Workout Gear

Let’s be honest: if you haven’t touched that yoga mat in the last year, it’s time to let it go. Old, stretched-out leggings and a T-shirt that’s seen more sweat than a summer marathon need to find a new home. You might even treat yourself to something new that actually inspires you to break a sweat. Motivation can sometimes come in the form of a cute workout outfit!

6. Tattered T-Shirts

We all have that one (or several) t-shirts we can’t bear to part with. But if they’re more holes than fabric, it’s time to wave goodbye. Sure, they might have sentimental value, but unless they’re from a concert you went to with your best friend back in high school, let’s be real—there’s no reason to keep them around. Save the memories, ditch the rags.

7. Outdated Accessories

Those chunky plastic bangles from 2005? They’re not making a comeback, I promise. Accessories can date quickly, and if you haven’t worn a piece in years, it’s likely not going to fit into your current style. Clear out the old to make way for new, trendy pieces that actually excite you!

8. The “Maybe” Pile

You know that pile of clothes you keep saying you’ll try on “later”? Yeah, that’s just a trap. If you haven’t worn it in a while, you probably won’t. Be brave! Give yourself a break from the indecision and let it go. If it’s meant to come back to you, it will—just not in this pile.

9. Clothes from Your “Other” Life

Maybe you used to dress like a corporate powerhouse or a bohemian artist, but if you’ve made a style switch, those clothes are just taking up space. Embrace who you are now, and let go of the past. It’s all about moving forward, right? Plus, think of how much fun it’ll be to shop for new pieces that actually reflect your current vibe!
