A dresser that costs about $106 and holds eight fabric drawers sounds like a bargain for a spare room. Federal officials say it can topple if it is not fastened to the wall.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall on October 29. It covers the SOOWERY 8 Drawer Fabric Dresser, SKU SOO-8DD-G01, and about 138 were sold.
The official notice, recall number 27-049, is posted by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
It Tips Over Unless You Anchor It, And Kids Are The Biggest Worry
The commission says the dressers can tip over when they are not anchored to a wall. That creates tip-over and entrapment risks that could cause serious injury or death to children.
The dresser also violates the mandatory safety standard for clothing storage units, which comes from the federal STURDY Act.
No injuries have been reported so far, and the recall is meant to keep it that way.
What The Dresser Looks Like
The unit has eight fabric drawers on a metal frame. It comes in gray and black.
It measures 47.2 inches wide, 11.8 inches deep and 35.4 inches tall, and it weighs 47.5 pounds. The SKU is printed on the packaging.
It was sold on Amazon.com from December 2025 through August 2026 for about $106. The seller is Shenzhen Zhongyuantong Technology Co., Ltd., which does business as SOOWERY, in China, and the dresser was made in China.
Write RECALLED On It, Pull Out Every Drawer, Then Email Photos
The remedy is a full refund, but you have to prove the dresser is out of service. The steps are:
- Stop using the dresser immediately if it is not anchored to a wall.
- Keep it in an area children cannot reach.
- Contact SOOWERY for a refund at [email protected].
- Write “RECALLED” in permanent marker on the top, front and sides.
- Remove all the drawers.
- Email photos of the marked, taken apart dresser to the same address.
- Dispose of the dresser.
It may feel like a lot of work for a $106 piece of furniture. The marker and the photos are what keep a recalled dresser from ending up in somebody else’s bedroom.
Why Anchoring Matters More Than The Price
Almost any tall, narrow piece of furniture can tip, especially when the drawers are pulled open and weight shifts forward. Dressers, bookcases and TV stands are the usual suspects.
The fix is cheap. A furniture anchor kit costs a few dollars at the hardware store and comes with a strap or bracket that ties the top of the piece to a wall stud.
Take your time with the install. Find the stud with a stud finder, use the screws that come in the kit, and tug the dresser to be sure it holds.
A Quick Walk Through The House
Holiday visits mean little ones in rooms they do not usually sleep in. Take ten minutes before company arrives.
- Check every dresser, bookcase and tall cabinet in guest rooms and the grandchildren’s room.
- Anchor anything that is not fastened to the wall.
- Put the heaviest items in the lower drawers so the weight sits low.
- Never let kids climb the drawers like a ladder, and do not put a TV on top of a dresser that was not made for it.
- Look for the manufacturer’s label or instructions that say how the piece should be anchored.
Renters Can Anchor Furniture Too
Plenty of renters skip wall anchors because they worry about their deposit. A small screw hole is one of the easiest things to fix when you move out.
A dab of spackle, a swipe with a putty knife and a touch of matching paint make it nearly invisible. Take a photo of the repaired spot for your move-out records.
If you are unsure what your lease allows, ask your landlord in writing before you drill. Most landlords would rather have a safe, anchored dresser than a hazard in the unit.
Do Not Forget The Television
A heavy TV on a dresser that was not made to hold it adds weight right at the top, where it does the most to tip the piece. If the television is on furniture, make sure the furniture is rated for it and anchored.
A wall mount or a low, wide stand is a safer home for a screen than the top of a tall dresser.
Buying Furniture Online
Online shopping makes it easy to land a cheap dresser from a seller you have never heard of. Before you order, read the product page for a mention of wall anchoring and the weight rating. Look for the seller’s contact information so you know where to turn for a refund.
Save the order confirmation, and take a photo of the label when the piece arrives. If a recall ever lands, you will have what you need in one place.
If you own the SOOWERY 8 Drawer Fabric Dresser, check the SKU and start the refund today. If you do not, use this as a reminder to anchor the furniture you already have.
