For one 18-year-old American tenant studying in Italy, her rental situation has taken a turn for the bizarre and uncomfortable. The student, who moved abroad to pursue her bachelor’s degree, has been living in an apartment for about six months. However, the journey has been anything but smooth due to a landlord whose behavior raises serious concerns about personal boundaries and tenant rights.
The tenant’s experience begins with the lack of a formal rental contract after paying her deposit. This absence of documentation has left her feeling vulnerable, particularly given the age and condition of the apartment, which she suspects contains mold. However, the most alarming aspect of her living situation is not just the lack of a written agreement but rather the landlord’s intrusive behavior.
