4,200 Bottles of Paint Thinner Recalled Over Child-Poisoning Risk — Check Your Garage Shelf

About 4,200 bottles of Liizousuda paint thinner sold on Amazon are being recalled because their packaging fails federal child-resistant standards, creating a poisoning risk for young children, according to the CPSC’s recall notice. If you’ve bought paint thinner or mineral spirits online in the past year, it’s worth a two-minute check of your garage shelf.

Key Points

  1. The recall covers roughly 4,200 units sold for about $10 each between March 2025 and February 2026.
  2. The product violates the federal Poison Prevention Packaging Act because its cap is not child-resistant.
  3. No injuries have been reported, but petroleum distillates can cause serious harm if swallowed or inhaled by a child.
  4. The product was sold exclusively on Amazon.com by third-party seller Shenzhen Gudebo Technology Co. Ltd.

What’s Affected

  • Brand: Liizousuda, also labeled “Odorless Mineral Spirit” and “Artist Oil Thinning Medium”
  • Recall number: 26-619
  • Sold: March 2025 through February 2026, only on Amazon.com
  • Price: approximately $10 per bottle
  • Manufacturer/importer: Shenzhen Gudebo Technology Co. Ltd., China

The bottles contain low-viscosity petroleum distillates, the same class of chemical found in many paint thinners and mineral spirits. Federal law requires household chemicals with this hazard profile to ship in packaging a young child can’t easily open. These bottles shipped without it, according to the CPSC. Beyond the poisoning risk from swallowing, petroleum distillates can cause chemical pneumonia if inhaled or aspirated, which is why the agency classifies this as a risk of “serious injury or death.”

What Homeowners Should Do

  1. Secure the bottle immediately out of the sight and reach of children — a high, locked cabinet, not just a high shelf.
  2. Do not simply throw the original bottle in household trash where a child or pet could access it; keep the cap tightly closed until you act.
  3. Contact the manufacturer at [email protected] to request a free replacement bottle with a proper child-resistant closure, then transfer the contents yourself.
  4. Check any other online-marketplace paint or solvent purchases for the same missing safety feature — a cap that a determined adult can remove with a simple twist, no push-and-turn or squeeze mechanism, does not meet the federal standard.

This recall is a reminder that child-resistant packaging rules apply to a wide range of garage and workshop chemicals, not just cleaning supplies and medicine. CPSC data shows an estimated 67,000 emergency department visits in 2023 involved poisoning in children under five, and nearly seven in ten of those incidents happened inside the home. Marketplace sellers based overseas are a common source of packaging violations because they aren’t always subject to the same pre-market compliance checks as established U.S. brands sold through big-box retailers — one more reason to double-check anything flammable or toxic that arrived in a plain shipping box rather than off a store shelf.
