Aubrey Plaza Just Quietly Sold the Los Angeles Home She Shared With Her Late Husband for Noticeably Less Than She Had Originally Paid for It

Aubrey Plaza has quietly closed on the sale of the Los Feliz home she once shared with her husband, filmmaker Jeff Baena, and the numbers tell a simple story: she took a loss. Public property records reviewed by TMZ show the sale closed on Friday, September 5, 2026, at $4.375 million, well under the $4.7 million she and Baena paid for the property back in October 2022.

The Spanish-style compound sits on a double lot and includes four bedrooms, six bathrooms, a wine cellar, a pool, a steam room, and a private screening room, according to the listing details cited in TMZ’s reporting. It’s the kind of home built for entertaining, and by most accounts it was exactly that during the years Plaza and Baena lived there together.

A winding path to a lower price

The sale wrapped up a listing process that stretched across roughly a year. Plaza first put the home on the market in September 2025 at $6.5 million, a listing AOL reported on at the time. The property was pulled from the market just before Christmas 2025, then relisted in January 2026 at a reduced $5.75 million. Even that adjustment wasn’t enough to find a buyer at anywhere close to the original ask, and the home ultimately changed hands for $4.375 million, more than $2 million below where it first listed, and $325,000 below what the couple originally paid for it.

Selling below purchase price after four years of ownership isn’t unusual on its own. Plenty of factors affect a resale number, from staging and timing to how a specific property compares to what else is available in a neighborhood at that moment. Los Feliz has a competitive high-end market, and a home this specific in size and style narrows the buyer pool considerably.

The context behind the sale

Baena, a writer and director known for films including “Life After Beth” and “The Little Hours,” died in January 2025. The couple had been separated since September 2024 at the time of his death. Plaza has continued working in the years since, and property records show the Los Feliz house had sat unoccupied through much of the listing period rather than serving as her primary residence.

Plaza and Baena bought the property together in October 2022, a period when Los Angeles home prices were still near their pandemic-era peak and bidding wars were common in desirable neighborhoods like Los Feliz. Buying at that point in the market meant paying a premium that, in hindsight, the broader Los Angeles market hasn’t fully sustained in every price bracket since, a dynamic that has affected plenty of sellers in the area, not just this particular property.

Plaza is now expecting a child with actor Christopher Abbott, and the couple welcomed a baby girl in late July 2026, according to reporting at the time. The sale of the Los Feliz property closed roughly six weeks after that, wrapping up one chapter of her life in Los Angeles as she settles into a new one.

What Los Feliz buyers are actually paying for

Los Feliz has long been one of the more architecturally distinct pockets of Los Angeles, known for its Spanish Colonial Revival and Mediterranean-style homes built in the 1920s and 1930s, many of them on hillside lots with views toward downtown or Griffith Park. A double-lot property with a wine cellar and screening room checks a lot of boxes for buyers in that market, but it’s also a specific kind of home that doesn’t move quickly. The buyer pool for a $5 million-plus estate with those particular amenities is inherently smaller than for a standard single-family listing, which helps explain the year it took to find the right offer.

What the sale price reflects

There’s no indication in the public record of anything unusual about the transaction beyond an ordinary, if somewhat prolonged, path to closing. The three price points along the way, the $6.5 million initial ask, the $5.75 million relist, and the final $4.375 million sale, track a fairly standard pattern for a high-end property that launched at an ambitious number and gradually came down to meet actual buyer interest. Real estate agents in competitive coastal California markets often describe this exact sequence: a seller tests the top of the market first, then adjusts once it becomes clear the initial price isn’t drawing offers.

For Plaza, the transaction closes out her ownership of a property that carried significant personal history, at a number that simply reflects where the Los Feliz market landed for a home of its size and style over the past year. The financial details are part of the public record regardless of the circumstances surrounding them, which is why they’re reported here, not as commentary on anything beyond the sale itself.
