Cleveland Renters Turned Their Entire Landlord Dispute Into a Music Video, and the Internet Cannot Stop Watching Their Side of the Story

A Promise That Didn’t Hold

Julia Kim and Cameron Celebuski were down two roommates in their four-bedroom Cleveland rental when their landlord, known publicly only as Cindy, told them she’d handle re-renting the empty rooms while they figured out whether to stay. She then rented out Celebuski’s room to a stranger without telling him first, demanded that one of the remaining tenants leave, and began threatening $100-a-day overstay fines on top of a $100-a-month rent increase.

A residential street of houses in Cleveland, Ohio.

Kim and Celebuski didn’t just move out quietly. They discovered the property violated Cleveland’s 2024 rental registration requirement, part of a citywide “Renters First” housing code overhaul the city passed in February 2024.

The Response Was a Music Video

Instead of a strongly worded letter, the pair wrote a song. Titled “Don’t Rent From Cindy,” the track is a full yacht-rock production released under the name Kimbuski, with matching tracksuits, choreography, a flute solo and a clown costume segment layered over screenshots of the landlord’s texts. They posted it to Instagram under the account “I’m From Cleveland” and to YouTube, and it spread fast enough that entertainment outlets picked it up within days.

Why It Worked Where a Complaint Wouldn’t Have

What separated this one is the combination of specificity and production value. Kim and Celebuski named a real registration violation, quoted real text messages, and packaged the whole thing as a performance polished enough to hold an audience’s attention for five and a half minutes.

The Bigger Pattern Renters Are Tapping Into

Housing disputes rarely move fast enough to satisfy the tenant living through them. What Kim and Celebuski did was compress that entire slow-moving process into something that could travel in a single afternoon, using the exact kind of documentation that makes a housing complaint hold up rather than just make noise.
