Winter is just around the corner, and heated blankets and pads are back on the bed. Before you plug yours in, check the brand. About 195,000 JKMAX heated blankets and heating pads have been recalled.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall on September 17, and the reports behind it are stark. There have been 577 reports of the blankets smoking, melting or burning, and those reports include 53 burn injuries.
The official notice, recall number 26-778, is posted by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
Wires Inside The Blanket Can Overheat
The commission says “The internal wire heating elements of the blankets and pads can overheat.” The hazards are fire and burns.
That is a scary thought for something people wrap around themselves on a cold night. A heated blanket is meant to be a comfort, not a risk.
The blankets and pads were sold on Amazon.com from September 2022 through July 2026, as one-packs and two-packs.
Which Models Are Affected
The recalled products come in blue, gray, brown or red. They are made of polyester, are machine washable and were sold in several sizes. Each one has a detachable white remote that adjusts the heat.
The model numbers are JKMAX-002, JKMAX-7284B, JKMAX-6284B, JKMAX-10090B and JKMAX-8490B.
The model number is on the back of the remote and on a white label on the packaging. The packaging also shows the JKMAX brand name.
The importer is Jiande Pengshuai Trading Co., Ltd. of China.
Stop Using It And Ask For A Full Refund
The commission tells owners to stop using the recalled blankets and pads immediately and contact JKMAX for a full refund.
The company’s phone number is 800-917-5732, open 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern, Monday through Friday. The email is [email protected], and the website is jkmaxrecall.com.
You can also go to Amazon.com and search for “Recalls and Product Safety Alerts” at the bottom of the page. If the remedy is not honored, the commission has a recall complaint form on its website.
Check The Remote Today
If you do not remember the brand, go look. Find the remote that came with the blanket and read the back.
Look at the packaging if you saved it. Check your Amazon order history, too, and search for JKMAX.
Unplug the blanket while you do your checking. It takes less than a minute, and it keeps the risk out of the room.
Safe Habits For Any Heated Blanket
Even a good blanket needs good habits. These are the ones that safety groups commonly recommend.
- Look the blanket over before every cold season. Check for frayed wires, scorch marks, bare spots and damaged cords.
- Do not fold, bunch up or tuck in a heated blanket while it is on.
- Do not put anything heavy on top of it, such as a pile of quilts or a pet that likes to knead.
- Keep the controller and plug cool. If either feels hot, unplug it and stop using it.
- Unplug the blanket when you are not using it, and do not leave it on all day.
- Pick one with an automatic shutoff timer.
Why Slow Burns Are Easy To Miss
A heated blanket does its work while you are relaxed or asleep. People who sleep deeply, or who have less feeling in their skin, may not notice a hot spot right away.
That is one more reason to use the timer and the lowest setting that keeps you comfortable. Many people turn the blanket on to warm the bed, then switch it off before they climb in.
Sniff the air, too. A hot-wire smell, a scorched odor or a faint plastic smell means the blanket should be unplugged and checked.
Warm Without The Worry
If you are without a heated blanket this week, there are warm backups. Flannel sheets, a wool blanket, a hot water bottle wrapped in a towel and a warm sweater at bedtime all help.
Wear socks to bed, and keep a spare blanket at the foot. Closing the bedroom door helps hold in warmth.
When you shop for a new heated blanket, look for the testing lab label on the tag or the controller. Buy from a seller you can reach by phone if something goes wrong.
Keep Your Records Handy
Before you box up the blanket, take a photo of the remote and the model label. Save your order confirmation, or take a screenshot of the Amazon page showing the date and price.
When you call or email JKMAX, have the model number and the order date ready. Write down the date and time of the call, and the name of the person you spoke with.
If the refund takes longer than promised, those notes make a complaint much easier to file.
Do not throw the blanket in the trash on your own without a plan. Ask JKMAX what it wants you to do with the product, and ask your town’s waste department how to dispose of a blanket with heating wires in it.
Tell Someone Who Might Own One
Heated blankets are popular gifts, and these were sold for nearly four years. A parent, a neighbor or a friend may have one tucked on a guest bed right now.
Send a note today with the brand name and the model numbers. It could be the most useful message you send this month.
