Selena Gomez has closed the sale of her longtime Encino estate for $5.4 million, ending a six-year stretch of ownership in the Southern California property once built for Tom Petty. Coverage from The Real Deal confirms Gomez bought the house in March 2020 for roughly $4.9 million and let it go this month for a gain of about $500,000, a modest return rather than a windfall.
The 11,500-square-foot residence sits on nearly an acre and includes six bedrooms, ten bathrooms, dual primary suites, a home theater, a gym, a wine cellar and a pool with a rock waterfall and cabana, according to Hoodline. Custom-built for the late Heartbreakers frontman after a 1987 fire destroyed his previous house on the same lot, the estate later passed to developers who renovated it following Petty’s 2015 foreclosure, and Gomez bought it in the years that followed. Parking accommodates up to seven vehicles, and the grounds also include a fire pit and a dining cabana with its own bar, features that made the listing photos a fixture on real estate social media once the property hit the market.
A Kitchen Fans Already Knew
Gomez used the home’s kitchen, with its exposed white brick and Viking range, as the set for her cooking series “Selena + Chef.” That room became one of the property’s most recognizable features long before the for-sale sign appeared on the lawn this spring.
Selling Below Asking, Still Above Purchase Price
She listed the estate in May 2026 at $6.49 million and accepted an offer roughly $1.1 million under that number, according to Urban Splatter, which tracked the deal through property filings. Beverly Hills Estates handled the listing side, while a Christie’s International Real Estate agent represented the buyer. The buyer’s identity has not been made public, and none of the reporting on the sale cites a specific closing date beyond a September 2026 close.

Six years is a long hold by celebrity real estate standards, and the numbers reflect that patience more than any quick flip. A $500,000 gain on a $4.9 million purchase works out to roughly two percent annual appreciation once the six-year span is factored in, well below what the broader Encino market posted over the same stretch. For a star whose career and touring schedule keep her moving between coasts, holding a single property for six years without a renovation flip or quick resale is itself notable, and it suggests the house functioned as a home rather than an investment.
The sale follows Gomez and her husband Benny Blanco’s purchase of a $35 million estate in Beverly Hills, a deal first reported by TMZ back in February 2025, well before the couple married that September. Offloading the Encino property appears to consolidate her Los Angeles holdings around that newer residence rather than maintaining two large homes across the Valley and Beverly Hills.
