Two Teen PC Gamers Got Tired of a Classmate Hoarding Their Best Games and Returning Nothing but Corrupted Disks, So They Sent His Conservative Family a Fake AIDS Foundation Letter He’d Never Live Down

In the 1990s, before the internet revolutionized the gaming world, sharing and trading video games was a cherished pastime for many teenagers. However, for two teenage PC gamers, the joys of camaraderie and trading took a sour turn when a new classmate decided to take advantage of their generosity. What followed was a legendary prank that would go down in their youthful history.

In a small town devoid of online gaming culture, the two friends, who had been avid gamers from a young age, resorted to a unique system of trading games to sustain their passion. They would purchase original copies of games from overseas by mail, as local shops offered limited options. These titles included gems like “The Settlers,” “Doom II,” and the charming “Monkey Island” series. With a little ingenuity, they managed to navigate the complexities of copy protection, allowing them to keep their gaming adventures alive.

Things took a turn when a new boy joined their class. This new kid boasted an impressive collection of games thanks to his uncle, and naturally, he was eager to swap titles with the duo. Initially excited by the prospect, the two friends quickly learned that their trust had been misplaced. Instead of receiving well-copied versions of the games they traded, they were met with corrupted floppy disks, missing copy protection, and barely functional copies in worn-out cases. Months passed, and not a single working game had been returned to them.

Feeling frustrated and betrayed, the duo decided it was time to take matters into their own hands. They brainstormed ways to wreak some innocent revenge on their unscrupulous classmate. They soon realized that the new kid came from a very conservative family that held traditional values – his mother was particularly strict, and he often mocked the interests of his peers, especially when it came to music. This was where the idea for revenge began to take shape.

The 90s were marked by a heightened awareness of AIDS, especially in the wake of public figures like Freddie Mercury bringing attention to the disease and its implications. After attending an AIDS awareness event at school, where they received informative flyers and even free condoms emblazoned with the logo of an AIDS foundation, the two friends found their way to a devious yet brilliant idea. They would craft a fake letter from the AIDS foundation addressed to their friend, exploiting the very beliefs that made him defensive.

Using their home inkjet printer, they meticulously created a letter that appeared to come from the foundation, thanking him for his supposed inquiries about being homosexual, and encouraging safe sex practices. They included the flyers they received at the event and the condoms as well, ensuring the letter looked as official as possible. To maximize the impact, they sent it directly to his home, knowing well that his parents would be the ones to open it first.

The fallout from this prank was far beyond what the two friends had anticipated. Upon receiving the letter, the boy’s mother was reportedly in tears, believing her son was grappling with his sexuality. His father was enraged, convinced he was dealing with a serious issue, and the boy found himself grounded for weeks as his parents struggled to comprehend the “news.” It was a whirlwind of chaos, and the prank successfully struck a chord with their classmate’s conservative upbringing.

In the aftermath, the boy suspected foul play but initially believed that his peers had contacted the foundation on his behalf. After some careful probing, the two friends ultimately confessed to their role in the prank. This revelation led to a meeting with the principal and the boy’s parents, where the situation was unraveled, leaving them in a mix of laughter and disbelief at the lengths the two boys had gone to for revenge.

Years later, the memory of this prank remains etched in the minds of the two friends as one of their most entertaining escapades – a testament not only to teenage camaraderie but also to the hilariously inventive ways young people navigate conflict. While the prank may have caused a temporary rift within their social circle, it certainly provided them with a story to tell for decades to come.
