She Ordered the Arby’s Meat Mountain. Now She’s Warning Everyone Never to Try It

Paige, a New York City TikToker who posts as @cecropiamoth888, has a blunt message for anyone tempted by Arby’s off-menu Meat Mountain sandwich: “Whatever you do, never under any circumstances order the Arby’s Meat Mountain.” Her warning came after what she describes as an allergic reaction that left her with facial swelling and pale skin following the sandwich.

What’s Actually in the Sandwich

The Meat Mountain isn’t on Arby’s printed menu, but it’s a long-running off-menu order made from eight different meats stacked together — Angus steak, bacon, brisket, chicken tenders, corned beef, ham, roast beef, and turkey — along with Swiss and cheddar cheese. It’s become a minor legend among fast-food enthusiasts precisely because of how much meat variety is packed into one sandwich, which is also exactly what may have caused Paige’s reaction.

The Allergy Her Video Points To

Paige’s video and the medical explanation that followed point to alpha-gal syndrome, a meat allergy triggered by the bite of a Lone Star tick and other related tick species. Unlike most food allergies, alpha-gal reactions are delayed — symptoms typically show up two to six hours after eating red meat, which makes the sandwich a uniquely bad match for anyone carrying the allergy without knowing it, since red meat from several different animals is stacked into a single order.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has flagged alpha-gal syndrome as an emerging condition, tied to tick populations that have been expanding across much of the country. Someone with a mild, undiagnosed case might tolerate a normal serving of one type of red meat without issue, only to react when several kinds are combined in unusually large quantities — which is close to the scenario Paige describes.

Why This Isn’t Just About One Sandwich

The practical lesson isn’t really about Arby’s or the Meat Mountain specifically. It’s a reminder that a reaction to a large, mixed-meat meal — facial swelling, hives, stomach pain, or dizziness showing up hours after eating rather than right away — is worth taking to a doctor rather than writing off as something that just didn’t agree with you. Alpha-gal syndrome is frequently missed on a first reaction precisely because of that delay between the meal and the symptoms.

What to Watch For

Anyone who’s had an unexplained reaction after a red-meat-heavy meal, especially one that took hours to show up, has a reasonable case for asking a doctor about alpha-gal testing, particularly in regions with high tick populations. Paige’s video has racked up hundreds of thousands of views less because of the sandwich itself and more because her story gave a name to something a lot of people have experienced without ever connecting the dots.
