Crystal Glass Cups Sold On Etsy And Instagram Are Recalled After Glass Broke Inside A Cup While Someone Was Drinking And The Refund Needs A Photo Marked RECALL

Handmade glassware has a certain charm. A crystal cup from a small shop feels special, and buying from a seller on Etsy or Instagram can feel friendlier than grabbing a box off a store shelf. But a recent recall is a reminder that a pretty cup still needs to be safe to drink from.

A clear drinking glass sits on a brown wooden table.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, known as CPSC, announced a recall on October 15, 2026, numbered 27-026. The company, Loving Thyself Rocks, is recalling about 600 crystal glass cups.

What happened

According to CPSC, the cups were sold between April and September 2026 for between $20 and $50. They were available at the Loving Thyself store, through its Instagram accounts and on Etsy.com. There has been one report of glass breaking inside a cup while someone was drinking from it. No injuries have been reported.

The recall notice describes risks of serious injury from ingestion and laceration hazards, which is a formal way of saying that broken glass can be swallowed or can cut. That is why the company is pulling the cups back even though only one problem has been reported so far.

How to get your refund

Customers who own one of the cups are asked to stop using it and take a few steps to claim a full refund. Here is how CPSC describes the process.

  1. Fill out the company’s online form.
  2. Take a photo of the cup with the word RECALL written on it in permanent black marker.
  3. Provide an attestation, which is a statement, that you have disposed of the cup properly.

Once those steps are complete, the company will provide a full refund. Some people find these requirements a bit of a hoop to jump through, and it is fair to say it is more work than simply returning a product to a store. But the photo and the marker serve a purpose. They help show that the cup will not be used or resold by someone else. If you bought one of these cups, it is worth following the steps carefully so you get your money back. Check the CPSC notice itself for the form and the exact instructions before you start.

Handmade and online shops deserve a second look

Only about 600 cups were involved, so most households will never own one. The bigger lesson is about how we shop. Small online sellers can offer wonderful, one of a kind items, but a product sold on a social media page or a marketplace stall may not have the same track record as something from a long established brand. That does not make small sellers bad. It just means a little extra care on your part is wise, especially with items that touch food or drink.

Here are some habits that can help.

  • Inspect new glassware before first use. Hold each piece up to the light and look for cracks, chips, bubbles or uneven thickness near the rim.
  • Do not ignore small flaws. A chip on a rim or a hairline crack can get worse with use, so retire damaged glasses.
  • Keep your receipts and order confirmations. If a recall happens, proof of purchase makes the refund process smoother.
  • Note where you bought it. Save the seller’s name and the page you ordered from, since a recall notice will identify the seller and the sales channel.
  • Sign up for recall alerts from CPSC so news reaches you without any detective work.

Handling glass safely at home

Whatever you drink from, a few everyday habits lower the odds of trouble. Wash glassware gently and dry it with a soft towel, and avoid stacking glasses so they knock together in the cabinet. If a glass does break, sweep up the pieces carefully, wrap them well before they go in the trash, and check the area for tiny slivers before anyone walks barefoot. Keep an eye on children and pets while you clean.

And if you ever notice a crack or a piece missing after a drink, stop and check the cup and the beverage before taking another sip. It is a simple pause that costs nothing.

Check your cabinets, including gifts

Take a moment to look through your kitchen and any gifts you have received. A handmade cup is the kind of thing people give as a present, and the person who got it may never have seen the original listing. If a crystal glass cup came from a small shop, check the seller’s name against the recall notice. A friend or relative may own one without knowing a recall exists, so share the news if the name matches.

If you do find a cup from Loving Thyself Rocks, stop using it right away. Do not give it away or put it in a donation bin, since that would just pass the hazard along. Follow the refund steps, including the marker and the photo, and dispose of the cup properly.

It is easy to feel that a recall is something that happens to other people. This one is small, with no injuries and a single report, but it makes a useful point. Whether you shop at a big store or a tiny online boutique, take a little time to look over what you bring home, keep your paperwork, and pay attention to recall news. A few minutes of care can keep a favorite drink, and a favorite cup, a pleasure instead of a problem.
