HOA President Shoved His Own Neighbor on Camera in a Clip That Hit Twenty Million Views and Ended With an Arrest and Two Lost Jobs Overnight

A shove caught on a neighbor’s phone in mid-February has already cost Christopher Bartlett his freedom for a night, his real estate inspection business, and his wife’s job, after the clip racked up more than 20 million views on TikTok, according to Hoodline’s reporting on the fallout.

The confrontation happened on Chateau Drive in the LaGrande Station subdivision of Puyallup, Washington, where Bartlett served as HOA president. The video shows him pushing neighbor Hipolito Gonzales during an argument that had been building since at least May 2025, rooted in ongoing noise complaints about loud music coming from Gonzales’ property. Whoever filmed it uploaded the footage to TikTok, and an account known for reposting inflammatory clips picked it up and pushed it in front of a much bigger audience than a typical neighborhood dispute would ever reach. Residents of LaGrande Station had lived alongside the friction for months before it boiled over on camera, with the HOA fielding complaints and Gonzales, a renter in the subdivision, apparently feeling singled out by the enforcement.

A Caption That Made It Worse

Part of what turned this into a viral firestorm rather than a local news brief was a caption error. Whoever amplified the clip identified Gonzales as a Marine veteran being harassed by an HOA president, a detail that isn’t accurate, according to Fox 13 Seattle’s reporting, which notes Bartlett, not Gonzales, is the one with military service, having served in the Navy from 1985 to 1992. The mistaken framing supercharged the online reaction, and the story spread faster and angrier than the facts alone would have justified.

Real consequences followed fast regardless of the caption mix-up. Puyallup police arrested Bartlett on February 18 on an assault charge tied to the shove, according to Hoodline’s reporting on the police report. He reportedly denied pushing Gonzales when initially confronted about it, a denial the video itself made difficult to sustain once it started circulating widely.

Two Careers, Gone Within Days

The professional fallout landed on both members of the household. Bartlett and his wife, Chrissy Bartlett, a real estate agent, were both let go by their Puyallup brokerage, Terrafin Real Estate. The company addressed the situation directly in its own statement, saying “the behavior depicted does not align with the professional standards and values of Terrafin.” Chrissy also stepped down from her seat on the Washington State Fair Foundation board, closing out a second, unrelated piece of her public-facing work in the same stretch of days. For a couple whose livelihoods depended on community trust and a public-facing reputation, losing both at once within days of an arrest is about as fast as professional consequences get.

What makes this story land differently than a typical neighbor dispute is the speed and totality of the fallout. Most HOA arguments, even heated ones, stay contained to a subdivision, maybe escalate to a police report, and fade from memory within a season. This one moved from a private confrontation to over 20 million strangers watching within roughly a week, and from there straight into a criminal charge and two lost jobs in a single household. Terrafin didn’t wait for a trial, a plea, or even much public pressure beyond the video itself before cutting ties, which tells you something about how fast reputational risk moves for a real estate brokerage once a client-facing employee is the one shown on camera.

What Actually Changed on Chateau Drive

Beyond the arrest and the job losses, the underlying dispute, loud music, an HOA president trying to enforce a complaint, and a renter who felt targeted, is the kind of low-grade conflict playing out in subdivisions everywhere, mostly without anyone ever finding out about it outside the block. The difference here wasn’t the substance of the disagreement so much as the fact that someone had a phone out at the exact moment it turned physical, and that the clip found its way to an account built specifically around finding and amplifying moments like it. Gonzales, for his part, became the center of a story that misrepresented basic facts about him before most viewers ever learned what the argument was actually about.

Bartlett’s arrest record and the loss of two incomes in one household are the parts of this story that don’t reverse once a video stops trending. Whatever happens with the assault charge moving forward, the professional damage is already done, and it happened at a speed that has very little precedent for a dispute this small in scale before it went online.
